GENERAL QUESTIONS

WHERE CAN I RENT A BICYCLE?

There are hundreds of bike rental shops in Amsterdam! Search for one near your hotel, or stumble upon one while you're out walking around. Most shops rent for 1 hour, 3 hour, or 24 hour periods (we always recommend at least 3 hours). Your hotel may also have bicycles available for use, giving you the convenience of cycling straight from your front door.

You can also rent a bicycle from us to use on the tour - and if you like, you can keep it at the end. We partner with Mac Bike to supply safe and reliable rental bikes to our riders for a discounted 3-hr rate. Tours leave from two convenient Mac Bike locations in the city center.

I DON'T RIDE A BICYCLE VERY MUCH AT HOME - IS THIS TOUR RIGHT FOR ME?

Yes! As long as you are comfortable staying upright, steering, and stopping on a bicycle, you'll be fine on this ride. We always start slowly, and offer additional help for less experienced riders. Still not sure? Get in touch with us and we can advise you on whether we think you'll be able to safely complete the tour.

I RIDE A BICYCLE ALL THE TIME AT HOME - IS THIS TOUR RIGHT FOR ME?

Yes! If you're an everyday rider (this tour was designed by one), riding in Amsterdam is an absolute joy and the experience of a lifetime. But with great power comes great responsibility, and this tour will ensure you know the basics to cycle safely and courteously, and find the best routes through the city.

If this sounds like you, we recommend you rent your own bicycle (we like Mac Bike) and join us on one of our "Bring your own Bike" tours for a special chose-you--own-adventure ending.

CAN CHILDREN TAKE THE TOUR?

The tour is available for riders ages 16 and up.

If you have rented your own bicycle with a child seat, you may join us on one of our "Bring your own Bike" tours. We may sometimes have bicycles with child seats available to borrow, contact us to learn more.

HOW HARD IS THE RIDE?

We've made sure that all of our tours are possible for all skill and fitness levels. You'll be riding for a total of about 30 minutes on mostly flat ground with frequent stops. The learning skills practiced on the ride will get progressively more difficult, but we'll make sure you're always prepared for what comes next!

TOUR INFO

WHAT WILL I SEE ON THE TOUR?

All of our tours take you past classic Amsterdam sights - the Vondelpark, the Rijksmuseum, De Gooyer, an Montelbaanstoren Tower, to name a few. But in our pursuit of quiet cycling, you'll also see a more intimate side of Amsterdam's neighborhoods and history. Check out our routes for a peek at what's to come.

WHAT WILL I LEARN ON THE TOUR?

All of our tours cover the basics of riding in Amsterdam. This means safety, rules of the road, parking, signage, dealing with intersections, etiquette, and a bunch of our favorite tips and tricks. You'll also learn a little bit about Amsterdam's history, and a lot about why a bicycle is the best way to see Amsterdam. By the end, you'll feel prepared for your own cycle adventure!

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Anything that you are comfortable moving around in! Dutch bikes aren't the racing or mountain bikes you may be used to - you'll be sitting upright, pedaling leisurely along a nicely paved road. We do always recommend layers and practical shoes. Basically, if you're comfortable wearing it around Amsterdam for the day, you'll be comfortable wearing it on the tour! If it's raining, we'll provide ponchos.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?

We recommend bringing a bottle of water, suscreen, a camera, and a snack if you want one. A backpack is convenient for cycling, and most rental bikes have baskets on the front for smaller purses and bags (never leave these unattended!).

DO I NEED TO WEAR A HELMET?

Short answer - no.

Look, we're not telling you not to wear a helmet, but you won't see anyone else in Amsterdam doing it (except children, couriers, and maybe other tourists). But safety first, so if you want to wear a helmet, you can borrow one from us (or your rental location of choice) along with your bike!

BOOKING AND PAYMENT

WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO YOU ACCEPT?

Book online using a credit card, debit card, or PayPal, or book in person with credit card, Apple Pay, Google Wallet, or cash.

BAD WEATHER AND CANCELLATION

DO THE TOURS RUN IF IT'S RAINING?

Yes, we ride in all weather! Periods of rain can be brief in Amsterdam, and we want to make sure you're prepared to hop on your bike when the sun emerges. So we run our tours rain or shine. We'll provide ponchos (and practice the Dutch classic of cycling with an umbrella) when it rains.

In the case of extreme weather we will alert you of any changes two hours in advance of your tour.
